TDTNYC's Growth Spurt
So TDTNYC is now a little more grown up. You can adjust the size of your window to view larger video clips, some even in HD. No more cramped videos kids, I promise. If some of the embedded files are slow to load, go to the original source and play a smaller resolution (or get a faster computer :-/ ). Some things I just have to post in it's full, crystal clear image. Like the video in the last post... so pretty

NYU Tisch Summer Filmmaker's Workshop
One of the crews during this year's workshop. A 4 week intensive where high school students get their first taste of filmmaking. A program I truly believe in because my team of brilliant educators and artists believe in it as well. Inspiration can be found during every shoot these kids are on. Being a part of it has been a truly humbling, exciting, and motivating experience. Thank you everyone, mentors and students alike..
Dreams From My Fuhrer
A film by a friend of a friend, Red Doyle. Simply described as:

I first watched it on said friend's blog.
Reminds me of how manipulating our own senses can be. Doyle's innovative concept is an example of how a simple idea can generate an inspiringly complicated film experience. Enjoy :)

My Brightest Diamond - Inside A Boy
Shara Worden accompanied The Decemberists at their recent performance at Radio City. Her voice, stylings, and stage presence is something unique and fascinating to behold. And in todays music industry, these are rare attributes to find in a musician. You may recognize Worden from her group My Brightest Diamond, but keep an eye (and ear) on her newest collaborations with The Decemberists and other artists like Bon Iver (link above). She is nothing short of a contemporary inspiration. TDT tips its hat to you Ms. Worden.
Fire & Ice
The classiest Hookah Establishment on Long Island (because it's the only one). Fire and Ice is more like two living rooms connected, sheet rock walls and hand painted ceiling panels add to the "dive bar" ambience. Really, it's not the nicest place. BUT, it's all we got Long Island, so enjoy. The upside? Cheap Hookah, and tastey. 8 Dollars for an approx 3 foot hookah, an extra 2 for ice, and an extra 2 for a flavor in the bottom. Personally, I save 2 bucks and just get water, but spring for the extra 2 and get the ICE (best decision). Hookah hits cold and the clouds run smooth. So next time you're bored on Long Island and sick of half price appetizers, Little Vinny's, Dollar Menus, bowling and the "nicer" movie theater that's 6 exits away... check out Fire & Ice, oh... by the way - BYOB.

The Girlfriend Experience at Sunshine Cinema
Waiting to get my apartment isn't so bad considering my parent's live on Long Island. It's nice to be able to stay with them until I get settled down. I'll be searching for apartments this Tuesday (finally). So today I'm going into the city to celebrate the birthday of an amazing, very beautiful, very close friend of mine. Sooo, why not take an earlier train and see Soderbergh's new film, The Girlfriend Experience before the festivities. The film is playing at Sunshine Cinema (my favorite NYC movie venue). Personally, going to a theater by myself is one of my favorite things to do. And if it's a good film, go a second time with the gang. Should be a great day. Oh and... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIANNE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FWA Theater
To start my morning I began researching award winning website designs to gather inspiration for my own soon-to-be-launched site. Because my website will be for a film and media production company that I am opening this summer, I tried narrowing down the designs I searched for to webpages that dealt with large amounts of video streaming. After a few hours of looking, note taking and clicking - I came upon this... FWA Theater. A simple website in terms of design (clean, organized and user friendly). But in terms of content, it is far from ordinary. Anything media, film, viral, from major motion picture trailers, to commercials, to show reels of innovative companies and individuals, and even short films. They got it all, and what they got is fun to watch. Their top picks for commercials and ad designs killed at least 45 minutes for me - and it was a 45 minutes well wasted...

The Girlfriend Experience
I have not yet seen Soderbergh's new film The Girlfriend Experience (under a limited theatrical release May 22nd). The film was shot entirely on the RED ONE camera - a testimony to Soderbergh's spoken affinity for the RED and his apparent abandonment of celluloid. He has been quoted saying, "For me, this is Year Zero; I feel I should call up Film on the phone and say, 'I've met someone.'" Based on the trailer alone, you'd expect it was shot on film. With its low exposures and harsh lighting, the photography demands pristine image reproduction. Let's hope that on May 22nd we take another step toward strengthening the reputation of the RED ONE. The Decemberists have been a constant source of inspiration for me for the past 3 years. I am excited to say I am seeing them at Radio City Music Hall in June, front row seats - best gift ever (thank you Meredith!). If you've never listened to them before, start with the tracks on their album Crane Wife. Then work your way backwards or get their newest album next. That is how I experienced them and it was perfect because it slowly introduced me to their unique sound. Crane Wife is played best from beginning to end. If you own a record player this band is for you... they were meant for vinyl.

Japanese Taiko
In the first week of May I went to a Japanese Taiko show at Drom in alphabet city. I just finished a shoot for Edison the weekend before. He did a live demo at the Museum of Arts and Design of his piece entitled, "Gringo Graffiti." I'll be cutting what I captured together this week and will be posting it to TDT soon. Edison bought me a ticket to the Japanese Taiko show, handed me a cold beer after I sat down and introduced me to his closest friends. The night met and exceeded my expectations. The high point was definitely the drumming portion of the performance. This is two flyers on Drom's website. One is for the performance I just described and the other is for a performance I'll be attending on the 22nd of this month. Based off of the first show, I think Friday's will be just as exciting. Tickets are 10 bucks. Not bad right?...
Glory At Sea
An independent film of today. As evidence to the revolution in digital distribution, you can watch the entire 25 minute film in high quality on YouTube's Screening Room. It was only a month ago that I was visiting my friends at their apartment in alphabet city to watch the film together. We projected the film by connecting Laure's laptop to her projector. The image quality was fantastic - of off YouTube no less! I just realized it's also good film to watch with that special someone... or follow in my footsteps and watch it with great friends and cheap wine (perfect).
Stranger Than Paradise
I've watched this film about 4 times in the last month. Criterion believes it, "forever transformed the landscape of American independent cinema." I couldn't agree more... I don't recommend watching it on YouTube, but at least you can get a feel for it. In terms of pacing - lets say it doesn't travel more than 30MPH. It is honest, modest, shot beautifully and written with a sense of humor unique to Jim Jarmusch. By the end of the film you'll wish you were actually friends with the characters.
glass blowing in brooklyn
UrbanGlass is an incredible glassblowing studio/gallery in Brooklyn. This is a short film I did last year on the process of glassblowing. The artist in the film is Edison Osorio Zapata who I am glad to say is now a very close friend of mine. As a glass and installation artist, his work always has a clear intention and creative execution. He has introduced me to some amazing artists in New York and I am thankful we've crossed paths... if the video is slow to load, click here to watch it on Vimeo...

yet another blog is born...
This blog is as simple as they come. A visual journal of all the things that make me look twice. I'm proud to say I live in New York City. I call it home because it feels like home. Now that I am abandoning dorm life and getting an apartment I'm finally feeling like I can truly take root here. You'll also get to see some of the work I create while in New York, and the work of others that I admire. Hopefully this blog will be as much of a meditation for you as it is for me. Thanks...

I know the blog has a long name. So let's refer to it as TDTNYC, or even TDT (why shouldn't everyone have some creative license?)
